Hello, It's Me...
I wanted to do a blog post to further introduce myself, after all, it's important you know who is going to be taking your pictures. The basics go as follows: I'm 35-years old, my pronouns are she/her, I live in Iowa, I have a wonderful husband of over 10 years, a five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, and taking their picture is my passion.
I started taking pictures as a kid with my mom's point and shoot on vacations (when she would let me touch her camera that is) and admiring my dad's Minolta Maxxum 7000. As I got older I received an Olympus point and shoot, which if you grew up in the 90s you probably had one or knew someone who did. But taking pictures didn't just come naturally to me, if I'm being honest. I remember taking pictures with my dad's Minolta for a 4-H project in high school and the judge barely gave me a blue ribbon for my work. And that was her being generous. I didn't pick up another camera besides my point and shoot in autofocus for a very, very long time. I was convinced I didn't have what it took. (That was a lie, ya know?)
Flash forward to 2011 and my husband telling me, SURPRISE, we're going to Hawaii. Dream trip, right? I needed a camera. A good one, not just a point and shoot, so I got a Nikon D90. And this time I was going to master it. I took online lessons, took lots of pictures, learned a lot, took an adult education photography course, and slowly perfected my craft. But it wasn't until my dad gifted me his old Minolta Maxxum that I found my true calling in photography. Film photography.
And here we are today. I'm a 100% film photographer, who has been slowly and carefully perfecting my craft over several years now, always learning and always striving to capture the best memories for my family. So it only made sense that the next steps in my photography journey was to open up and take on clients, because let's face it, you need and want those memories too.
So now, what else do you need to know about me? I love music and will prepare a playlist for you for your session. Traveling never gets old to me (ugh, I miss it so much!) and I cannot wait to be vaccinated and open up to traveling across the country for sessions. I have a strong desire for fashion and will help you choose your session outfits so you not only look great, but also feel comfortable and overall coordinated, but not in a cheesy Olan Mills way.
Now that you know me, I want to get to know you! Chime in in the comments or ask me more!
